1. Japan Will Provide AfDB with an Additional $1.5 Billion: "$1.5 billion is the amount that Japan will mobilize in 2017-2019 for the African Development Bank (AfDB) as part of the Joint Enhanced Private Sector Assistance in Africa (EPSA) initiative. Indeed, the last loan signed between the two parties last May and worth 300 million Dollars marks the end of the second phase of the EPSA initiative and the beginning of the third. With this third phase, Japan and the AfDB intend to jointly provide three billion Dollars over the next three years. This was confirmed by the AfDB in a statement issued on June 15. Japan plans to contribute $1.5 billion through its Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)."


2. Morocco Elected as a Member of the UN Economic and Social Council: "The Kingdom shall sit on the Council for a term of two years starting from January 1, 2018. The UN Economic and Social Council, made up of 54 members, is one of the six main organs of the organization. Its mission is to promote economic, social, and environmental development. This election thus comforts the place of Morocco on the UN scene, especially in terms of sustainable development. It will enable the Kingdom to continue to work towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030 and will contribute to the strengthening and sharing of its achievements in this field."


3. New Satellite Imagery to Anticipate Locust Invasions: "As part of their collaboration on rapid alerts, scientists from the European Space Agency (ESA) and Desert Locust specialists from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have developed a new way of using information obtained by satellites, whose aim is to anticipate the conditions favoring the appearance of Desert Locust swarms. This new technology will extend the warning time for locust outbreaks by two months."


4. Significant Increase in Algal Biomass in 2017: "The Department of Marine Fisheries has reported a positive trend of seaweed replenishment, illustrated by an increase in biomass in 2017. This increase was reflected in the quota allocated for 2017, which is 12% higher than the one granted in the previous year," said a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests."


5. The Tourism Sector in Essaouira Is Returning to Growth: "The 2017 tourist season looks promising. Indeed, the tourism sector is resuming and returning to growth. This trend is in line with the medium-term forecasts, the sector will continue to evolve in a promising way, notably with the opening of new airlines."
