In-Between, a new short film produced in partnership with Coldplay and the global humanitarian organization Choose Love, has officially premiered on YouTube, bringing a deeply human perspective to the experience of forced migration.
Directed by British Nigerian filmmaker Renee Maria Osubu and set to music from Coldplay’s 2024 album Moon Music, the 12-minute hybrid film explores the emotional and social fractures that displacement creates — not only between individuals, but within families and within one’s own sense of identity.
A story grounded in reality
Filmed in Malta and Kenya, In-Between follows Omar, a young refugee from Ethiopia attempting to build a new life on the island nation. Torn between the memories of the home he left behind and the challenges of adapting to an unfamiliar environment, Omar embodies the duality shared by countless displaced people worldwide.
His connections with Malta’s East African community and long-distance calls to relatives back home create a fragile bridge between these two worlds. The film’s cast includes many immigrants and refugees, underscoring the project’s authenticity and lived-experience storytelling.
The production itself was supported by two refugee-led organizations, SPARK 15 and RAAH, whose insights helped shape the film’s narrative and community-driven spirit.
Art in service of advocacy
Speaking about the project, director Renee Maria Osubu emphasized its universal resonance: “The story we’ve told is one that resonates far beyond borders. It’s a story of people desperately fleeing their homelands in search of safety, of the isolation and rejection they face, and, above all, of a love that transcends all boundaries.”
All proceeds from the film will be donated to Choose Love, which supports refugees and displaced families across the globe, including SPARK 15 and RAAH. The trailer premiered during the 10 Years of Choose Love charity concert held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, where the organization marked a decade of humanitarian action.
By blending cinematic storytelling with Coldplay’s signature musical atmosphere, In-Between uses art to illuminate the emotional landscapes of migration, offering a compassionate lens on one of the defining issues of our time.
