Irish football legend Mick McCarthy has taken on an unexpected role, swapping the sidelines for the silver screen in Heineken 0.0’s latest campaign. The former Republic of Ireland captain and manager fronts a tongue-in-cheek promotion that mixes sport, cinema, and a free pint.
Created in collaboration with creative agency THINKHOUSE, the spot reimagines McCarthy as a Humphrey Bogart-esque figure in a moody, film noir setting. Dramatic lighting, sharp shadows, and dry humour give the piece its distinctive style, while delivering a light-hearted “redemption story” that ends with an invitation: fans nationwide can redeem a complimentary pint of Heineken 0.0 at participating pubs until September 14.
The film also nods playfully to one of the most talked-about moments in Irish sporting history, adding a layer of nostalgia to the fun. Known for his no-nonsense character and wit, McCarthy embraces the theatrical role, bringing a touch of drama and humour that resonates with audiences.
Speaking about the collaboration, McCarthy said: “I was delighted when Heineken 0.0 invited me to appear in this ad not just because Heineken 0.0 is my brand of choice, but because the script had me laughing straight away. The noir style gave it all a brilliant atmosphere and I think people will enjoy the subtle humour. If it gives them a reason to smile while raising a glass of Heineken 0.0, then that’s a win in my book.”
Mark Noble, marketing manager at Heineken Ireland, added: “We are incredibly proud to partner with Mick McCarthy, a true sporting legend. This partnership is all about redemption and connection, enjoyed with a refreshing pint of Heineken 0.0, all delivered with a laugh along the way.”
By blending cinematic flair with a touch of football folklore, Heineken 0.0 continues its push to connect with audiences through entertainment-led storytelling—raising a glass to humour, nostalgia, and community spirit.
